About the Creators
Isao Takahata, born in Mie Prefecture in 1935, was a renowned animation film director. After graduating from the University of Tokyo with a degree in French literature in 1959, he joined Toei Doga. He directed his first theatrical film "The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun" in 1968. He has directed many theatrical feature films, including "Jarinko Chie" in 1981, "Grave of the Fireflies" in 1988, and "Heisei Raccoon War Ponpoko" in 1994, among others.
Yasuo Otsuka, born in Shimane Prefecture in 1931, joined Toei Doga in 1957. He participated in Japan's first full-length color animation "Hakubenden" in 1958 and "Wanpaku Oji no Taibetsu Toushi" in 1963 as an animator. He was the first animation director for "The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun" in 1968. His works as animation director include "Moomin" in 1969, "Lupin the Third" in 1971, "Panda Copanda" series in 1972 and 1973, "Future Boy Conan" in 1978, "Lupin The Castle of Cagliostro" in 1979, "Jarinko Chie" in 1981, and many others. He was also in charge of storyboarding for this film.
