I don't collect pens for the sake of collecting. I try to use my pens on a fairly frequent rotation, if not all of them in one day. I did a lot of internet searching for "must-have" pens, and pens referred to as "workhorses". Quite often, even if the list was only 3 different pens, invariably the Pilot Custom 823 was listed. It is the only vacuum filler I own, with the rest of my pens being piston fill. And I have pens that I paid more for than the 823, and pens I've paid less for than the 823. This pen lives up to the hype. A great pen in all aspects (fit, feel, finish, nib, flow, etc), the only comment I could make is that I wish they were a little less expensive (like all my pens) so I could afford more of them.
