Apagard Royal is the flagship, mail-order-exclusive toothpaste from Sangi Co., Ltd., the Japanese company that developed the world's first hydroxyapatite remineralizing toothpaste in 1980. Sangi's medicinal hydroxyapatite (mHAP) received formal recognition from Japan's Ministry of Health as a cavity-prevention active ingredient in 1993, and Apagard Royal is classified in Japan as a quasi-drug (医薬部外品), a category of medicated products whose efficacy claims are reviewed and approved by Japanese regulators. Sold only through Sangi's own direct channels rather than general retail, Royal is positioned as the formula with the highest mHAP concentration in the Apagard lineup, and it is fluoride-free.

As a quasi-drug medicated toothpaste, Apagard Royal is approved for the following effects: whitens teeth, prevents the onset and progression of cavities, prevents periodontal disease (gum disease), prevents gingivitis, prevents bad breath, removes tobacco tar and stains, purifies the mouth, and freshens the mouth.

The formula centers on medicinal hydroxyapatite, an ingredient with three recognized actions: it adsorbs plaque on the tooth surface to make it easier to remove, fills microscopic surface defects in enamel to create a smoother, more even surface, and helps remineralize early-stage demineralized areas of enamel. Royal also combines this with hydrolyzed conchiolin liquid, a pearl-derived ingredient, in what Sangi describes as a brightening formula.

Apagard Royal contains five active ingredients: medicinal hydroxyapatite, Macrogol 400, polyvinylpyrrolidone, β-glycyrrhetinic acid, and cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), alongside other formulation ingredients listed below.

Usage Instructions

Apply an appropriate amount (about 1cm) to a toothbrush and brush thoroughly so the active ingredients can take effect. Brush especially carefully before bed. As this is a toothpaste, avoid swallowing it. Brushing too roughly may damage teeth, gums, or dental crowns and restorations. If a rash or other abnormality appears, discontinue use and consult a doctor. After use, close the cap tightly and store in a cool place, out of reach of infants and young children.
