Product Description

Where Time Has Vanished is a newly redesigned edition of Ikko Narahara's landmark photobook, originally published in 1975 as the culmination of his four-year stay in the United States. One of postwar Japan's most celebrated photographers, Narahara is known for images that transform real landscapes into vast, surreal scenes, including his iconic 1972 photograph Two Garbage Cans, New Mexico.

This volume reconstructs the series in its final, refined form, allowing readers to fully appreciate Narahara's striking visual language, large-scale compositions, and artistic sense of structure. It stands as a major companion to his acclaimed Europe: The Stilled Time, and is presented as one of the most important achievements of his career.

The book also includes a newly written commentary by Noriko Tsutaya of the Shimane Art Museum, a longtime researcher of Ikko Narahara. Book design is by Yuya Sano, following his work on Domains and Europe: The Stilled Time. Please note: this edition is being released in a first-print-only format, with no reprint currently planned.
