About the Authors

Hayao Miyazaki: Born in Tokyo in 1941, Miyazaki is an acclaimed animation film director. He graduated from Gakushuin University in 1963 and joined Toei Animation. His notable works include "The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun," "Panda Copanda," "Conan: The Future Boy," "Lupin III: Cagliostro," "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind," "Castle in the Sky," "My Neighbor Totoro," "The Witch's Delivery Service," "Red Pig," "Princess Mononoke," "Spirited Away," "Howl's Moving Castle," "Ponyo on the Cliff," and "The Wind Rises." He is also the author of several books, including "Shuna's Journey," "Starting Point," "The Turning Point," and "The Tobira to the Book."

Yoshifumi Kondo: Born in Gosen-shi, Niigata in 1950, Kondo graduated from Muramatsu High School in 1968 and joined A Productions. He worked as an animator on "Star of the Giant," "Lupin the Third," and "Mirai Shonen Conan." In 1978, he joined Nippon Animation and was selected as a character designer and animation director for "Anne of Green Gables." He later joined Telecom Animation Film and worked on "Detective Holmes." In 1987, he joined Studio Ghibli and worked on "Grave of the Fireflies," "The Witch's Delivery Service," "Omohide Poroporo," and "Red Pig." "Mimi wo Sumeba" was his first feature film as a director, released in 1995.
