Product Description

Issey Miyake is a renowned designer who seamlessly integrates various genres such as graphics, sculpture, and textiles, using "clothing" as his primary medium of expression. His work is deeply rooted in Japanese clothing culture, yet he continuously discovers and creates new "forms" by developing innovative materials through cutting-edge technology and fiber research. Miyake's creations aim to provide comfortable everyday wear that inspires and brings joy to people.

In March 2016, the National Art Center in Tokyo hosted "MIYAKE ISSEY: The Work of Issey Miyake," an exhibition that showcased Miyake's design philosophy and approach to "monozukuri" (the art of making things) through his works from early projects to his latest endeavors. This book serves as both the official catalog and a comprehensive guide to the exhibition, featuring photographs by Iwasaki Gaku of all the displayed "clothes." It also includes innovative visuals such as Tokujin Yoshioka's "grid body" installation and a collaboration with the artwork of Kotaro Sekiguchi.

This book is an essential introduction to Issey Miyake's major works and offers a fundamental rediscovery of his unique appeal. It delves into Miyake's constant quest to answer the question: "How can design contribute to contemporary society?" The content is presented in both Japanese and English.
