About Ueno Fugetsudo

Ueno Fugetsudo's legacy began when the first-generation Daizumi Kiemon settled in Edo (now Tokyo) in 1747. With a philosophy of creating joy through their confections, the shop quickly gained favor, even receiving the esteemed name "Fugetsudo" from Lord Matsudaira Sadanobu. The fifth-generation Daizumi Shozaburo ushered in a new era for the brand in the Meiji period by introducing modern Western-style sweets in the thriving Ueno area. Ueno Fugetsudo continues to honor its founding family's spirit and craftsmanship, striving to deliver the joy of delicious confections through the ages and embracing change while creating new cultural experiences.

The Birth of Gofuru

The Gofuru was born in 1929, crafted by the Fugetsudo confectionery lineage in Tokyo. At a time when sweet Japanese confections made with a large amount of sugar were considered superior, the introduction of Gofuru's crispy texture and refined sweetness was met with great acclaim and welcomed as a delightful surprise.
